WHY WE DO THIS?
Laneways have untapped potential and when planned and designed effectively, can be an integral part of our public realm. Laneways can offer extensive cultural, economic, social, health and environmental benefits. They can play a role in creating engaging, lively and richly textured places where people want to live, work and visit.
The BIA's hope by entering Reggae Lane into the The Laneway Project is to see changes. Encourage the use of neglected space into something useful or unique that will benefit both commercial and residential aspect.
IMPROVEMENTS TO LANEWAYS CAN PROVIDE:
- Increased walkability and connectivity
- New venues for community events and entertainment
- Increased space for informal physical activity
- New public and green spaces close to home
- A canvas for public art and interventions
- Unique destinations
- Pop-up shops and micro-business opportunities
We are reaching out to Community leaders, Residences, Business Owners and Landlords to volunteer some valuable time to express ideas, comments as well as to help bring this project come to fruitition.
"The vision on we hope to see here, is use of an area that’s not being used, the eventual usage for the area will be up to the community to decide" - Nick Alampi (BIA Chair)
"The Laneway also need a lot of love, This is an opportunity to engage the community and bring people together around a project and public space" - Ariana Cancelli (The Laneway Project Team)
